Am reading Althusser.
:-p <--- taste bad face

So far he hasn't said anything that the textbooks didn't say quicker and clearer and rather better. But apparently going and reading what they're all talking about has some value. I can see how it could avoid playing telephone with theorists. But some of these dudes need massive lessons in clarity.

There's also the feeling of coming in in the middle of an argument where I can only hear one speaker and he's replying to stuff that it wouldn't have occured to me to object to.

So far I'm highlightering every sentence that actually makes sense and hoping I can stick them together to mean roughly what it says in the other book.
:eyeroll:

... ah, is past 5pm and I forgot lunch, that would explain some of the blah then...

So, food, then finish the stupid essay, then go back to the book as actually makes sense.

Someone linked to the Torchwood 'Captain's Blog' on BBCAmerica.

Bit dry, but I liked lines like:

Hinges on pterodactyl cage failed again, will need to be welded properly this time – i.e. not by Ianto and Owen.

Other security issues: Will need to replenish cryo-chamber, as we are running low on replacement corpses. Ianto to source some from the usual supplier.

... Ianto's job description just gets broader.

Other issues: According to Ianto, Splott is pronounced "Sploe". I think Ianto may have been lying.
... and this needs to go in the blog? :-)

but then for episode 4 Read more... )

Spent all day reading for cultural studies.
Happy now :-)

Have only stopped cause I realised I couldn't get my brain to stick to the topic and then looked up and found it was 9pm. Which, you know, explained it.

I love this book. There's bits about syntagms and rhetoric and interpellation and that Night Mail film we watched and might do an essay on and all of it makes sense in English! Win!

Later on there will be analysis of Take That. I giggle in anticipation. For this is a book of the 90s, and suffers much when trying to be up to date.

I've got a bunch of little paper markers left in it for bits that I want to copy and quote on the discussion board. Is interesting.

... yes, I continue to prove I'm definitely on the right course.
:-D

Am watching The Mummy Returns, because it's on basically.
I like it. How many sequels have the same relationship that was the happy ending in the first film? Well, probably a bunch, but anyways - they're still together, and there's a kid, and they're still doing hero stuff. Much more interesting that way.

I'm still quite likely to turn it off and go read a book. But that's because my brother loves the film so I've watched it often enough to have it memorised.
(He watches it with subtitles from different languages on. And then he sort of stutter repeats his favourite bits. It do tend to put one off the thing.)
