in class again
Apr. 26th, 2010 02:30 pmIs quiet today. we have reading things and finding quotes to support them.
It would help if I knew what the words meant.
I asked what does 'strongly motivated atmosphere' mean in the quote
'Tom does have a stereotypical appreciation for the good food and cultural life Europe offers, but the setting remains an abstraction, signifying moral neutrality, acquisition of culture with a capital "C", and the geography of plot development rather than a strongly motivated atmosphere.'
Teacher said 'I don't know, what do people think?'
... yes, that's very helpful. that's clearly why she handed out these three selected quotes. the not knowing the words.
then I said something about Venice changing the meaning of scenes that are mostly about hanging around having parties, because Venice has that whole decay and something under the surface thing going on. then she said that's what it means.
okays.
in other news I cut my hand, possibly on the tap on my sink, which would be a good trick. so I had to buy sticking plasters on the way to college cause I can't find any at home. I bought two sorts because sure enough the first sort made me itch itch itch, so I'm back to the hypoallergic ones. They're weirdly solid feeling.
okay, break over, I post and go do thinking.
next we'll watch the film The Talented Mr Ripley
