The trouble with headaches is I curl up in the dark and get really really bored. So I decided to listen to a Doctor Who audio with the volume as low as possible. I'm listening to Dust Breeding and honestly? I'm really really bored. There's the Master in the story and I'm really really bored. He stood around explaining the plot for ages and ages and I kind of lost the thread because, you know, bored. And granted my concentration is never that great when headached, even after the painkillers work, but... bored. Plus I don't like anyone's voices. And the people who I usually like their voices they're putting the emphasis in odd places and processing the voices weird. And, and this one is getting ever more annoying, the background noise of the planet is a Dalek scream that *never* *ends*. Blah.
I think the early stories aren't as good as the later ones. Surprise. But the thing is I've now got and listened to everything from Zagreus on up, and quite a few randomly before that, so there's only the beginning ones left to get. So I'm working backwards and things are getting sort of less good.
Also recently I listened to The Holy Terror, with Frobisher, which wasn't terribly good because once again it was all 'the characters are terrible shallow stereotypes! It's a clue!' Also Frobisher didn't do much that was very distinctive, except change the shape of his nose.
Also also there was The Mutant Phase. A Dalek story with a paradox in it. It didn't make sense, and Nyssa said it didn't make sense, and the Doctor said paradoxes usually don't. I think lampshading that is a bit dodgy. But I liked the majority of the story.
I'm going to stop listening to this one even though it's nearly finished. I just lost interest and lost track of it. Boo.
I'll probably have to give it another chance later when nothing hurts.
I have been liking the recent stories plenty much. But there's only one of those a month. I think I should start rationing them.
