This didn't suck.
... I'd like to be nicer to it because gay lead character played by gay actor
but
nazis
I hate Earth X and everything about that storyline
just
nazis.
Ugh.
Also this one seems to have the Earth X version of The Flash in it, and I do not want.
Ray is fine though. He gets superpowers, he pisses about with them a bit to show off, he uses them to threaten the guy who just fired his whole department and get their jobs back, he faces no kind of repercussions for this but his friend tells him Not Okay. Just new powers superhero stuff.
And then Vibe and Mr Terrific and Arrow and Flash and Vixen all turn up and Ray helps them fight and then there's training. Which I have to say I find difficult to fit with the xover episode, like, I don't recall them all knowing him? But I hated those episodes so I could easily have missed stuff.
There's an overcoming your personal issues arc too. He's not out to his parents and really bad at dating, like, epic excuses to not ask people out not dating. And the whole story is about accepting himself and working through that. So he dated a guy for a while and gets dumped for not being out? And then nazis from another universe attack his house and he ends up all bruised and his parents try and start a conversation about gay bashing, which technically this was not, but he takes the opportunity to come out. His parents knew anyway? And were okay with it? Which is... one story to tell. I mean, it's a nice one. He just looks daft.
And then there's the thing with his brother, where he feels like his brother died a hero and everything he does is to try and live up to his memory. And his parents tell him they love him for him and he does good in his own right. So that's nice.
It layers up a nice character. Ray's fine.
I just hate Earth X.
The Freedom Fighters are okay though. Phantom Lady has cool powers.
... I'm counting female characters in my head again. Like, they existed, but mainly as evil nazi Overgirl? Vixen for one section. Caitlin had a couple of lines. Phantom Lady at the beginning and end. His mom. One couple that got threatened and Ray saved them. Muslim lady asking for housing help because unfair eviction. A bunch of resistance fighters. So that's a bunch of people.
Most of the conversation was Ray and his friend John who was the Earth 1 equivalent of Condor.
Oh, at the end Ray said earth 1 John had a crush on Earth 1 phantom lady equivalent, and Condor said there are differences between worlds, he's into dudes, dude.
That might be the first time we've seen that particular difference for sure? Like it has been Plot that Earth X and Earth 1 had matching preferences, with the possible exception of Cold. Like Sara Lance was matching. But if Condor is different then Cold could be. We don't know.
But also everyone could be between universes. Which is way more fun. Everyone can date everyone, there's a lot of universes.
If they're going to use the multiverse I would have really preferred they didn't use it this specific and particular way.
But Ray as a character is fine and I'd probably watch more if there was more.
