So, I watched the extended version
both CaH and Rev6:8 were almost 10 minutes long on first cut
and once again I find, deleted scenes? Yaaay for deletion.
I don't think we lost anything that would have improved the episode.
and one part? With the wigs? Watched it between my fingers. Very, very bad.
The plot point - Kronos down the well - was interesting. How it was done? Oh. Very. Dear.
There were other bits of talking but most of them disambiguate Methos, and where's the fun in that?

So I've put the disc in for the regular version, and will watch again. Because brilliant.

Other things learned from the rough cut - post production, yaay! I might say I usually hate the music (though actually in these two eps I didn't hates it) but without music its a very different show. And the sound, and some of the editing, and just so many things. Finished versions have a lot of extra work put in.

And the vortex Quickening, unfortunately.
I'd kind of like to do like they do with old DW eps sometimes and go make a new and improved FX sequence to go there. There has to be a better way to make that happen.

Good things about the versions on the DVD - writer commentary with snark turned up to 11. Every niggly little thing you've ever thought 'er, hang on' about, highlighted, and also made funnier.

They also said only AP gives good Quickening. I disagree. PW gives *great* Q.

in all, great DVD extra, not great footage.
still fun to watch.

I followed a link to an essay but I'm only a couple paragraphs in and already I wish to argue with it.

Giles’ comment that “testosterone is a great equalizer: it turns all men into morons”, is a rephrasing of a common community response to date and acquaintance rape: “boys will be boys”.

It says that, then goes on to say how words try and ignore/trivialise rape. Like Giles' thing he said is part of that.

But:

1) He says that before Xander does anything particularly bad, after Buffy basically tells him he's dressing different, hanging out with other people and being mean (NOT assaulting anyone)
2) it doesn't just repeat uncritically, it rephrases it to make it a *Bad Thing*. I mean Giles is brains guy, calling somebody a moron is big disapproval. Even if he is aiming it at an entire gender.
3) Giles is immediately undermined and proven to be not taking it seriously enough. And I do mean immediately. A couple of lines later and it turns out Giles is wrong to be making it about testosterone, and that already the pig has been killed.

those factors together make it a *very* different thing than the text supporting a 'boys will be boys' dismissal of sexual assault. Huge difference.

But I don't know if they notice that further down the essay.

Bad brain day. Hid under duvet all day. Also read a book. Which turned out not to be very good. Which is annoying.

I've done more in the last half hour than I have all day.

I've started sorting out con clothes. If anything needs washing methinks tis far too late to wash and dry in time. But considering how very many con clothes I have, I should be able to get three days and a travel outfit out of them.

My travel shirt is chosen already, actually. Its the nice eight point star in knot shirt I accidentally turned lavender. Its red and black but also purple, and it has long sleeves and actually is nearly long enough to count as a dress, so its good for the weather.

I've gone with the celtic knot theme in picking shiny bits. I've got the belt buckle, the matching sword, some earrings, a hair tie and a couple of bangles. Theme!

The sword won't stay on the belt without something clever happening with a bit of ribbon. Which I'm sure I'll manage if I just remember to pack the ribbon...

I'm debating bringing my spike bracelets. They give it a sort of valkyrie look but they have definite problems when crossing arms, or doing hand jive. Also they're uncomfy to put on. Probably best to leave them home.

Apparently this isn't a tiara sort of a weekend.
*sulks*

Part of the problem is I don't know what sort of weekend it is. I mean at Wolf or Starfury I can happily do costumes, and while I might be the only one (aside from Jedi Chefs) I (as far as I've noticed) don't get mockery for it. But Highlander Worldwide? Website says not so much with costumes, though they're welcome, and it has rules for swords.

I haven't sorted anything to get signed yet. I actually might just go with the con booklet.
Will there be a con booklet???
This might become 'con napkin' in a pinch...

Lasagne pinged. Food will make things better.

*frazzled rushing about*

One glove.
One glove!
If I can *find* this one glove, I have an outfit. Without it, lacking outfit entirely.

All through all the drawers, all the cupboard, all the places it should be. One glove only, not the other.

Now I get the fun of looking places it shouldn't be. Such as the area beside the sofa where everything got thrown out of the way.

*headdesk*

Aside from that, I still have too many clothes to fit in the suitcase.
If I just decide that corsets aren't going to happen, that means I'll never fit in the big velvet skirt (however pretty it is, my size it is not), which is too long to walk in anyway. Then I can put the skirt somewhere out of the way, put the corset with it, and proceed to sort out the rest of the clothes into outfits that fit.

I'll probably end up wearing t-shirts all weekend. *sigh*

!

eta: ten minutes later, after wailing, checking behind the sofa, and phoning mum, I found it roughly a foot below where it was supposed to be, having fallen down between bits of furniture.
Mum says I should ask St Anthony.
She also says she still has a few bits of con clothes in her laundry basket, which is a good thing to rediscover.
I know I still do also, but mostly they aren't the ones as wash easy.

Still, outfit! With the new skirt! I shall be shiny and wearing chains. Nifty!

waaaaaah!
flaaaaaaap!
frazzled and fussing!

BUT, first stage packing now accomplished. I have enough clothes for about a fortnight, and they all fit in the bag. (lots of thin fabric. And also, couple of garments of warmness to go with everything.)

I shall add shiny things and weapons and see if the suitcase closes.

I threw some t-shirts and my nice black top in the washing machine, along with the red trousers as have been lurking in the laundry basket awaiting a reds wash. They'll probably dry by tomorrow night, and then I can pack them and wear them and smell all laundered.

My autographed t-shirt... well, it really needs cleaned. But, signed. So no washer machine. Soooo... I'm going to try vacuuming it. And maybe wipe it with the wipe clean cloths.

It doesn't have many signatures yet.

Next con related job is digging out the convention folder full of Highlander stuff, and sorting it so I don't buy duplicate photos. Since I can live with duplicates, this is lower priority than clothes.

I have 3 assorted Clan Denial t-shirts in the wash and 4 I washed the other day. I have a week of shirts. Not even counting the signed one.

I'm definitely going to try and give away 4 of those.

see, if I was an optimist, I would call my current mood excitement, or anticipation. I mean I'm going to do a cool thing, all this energy must be for coolness!
I'm, er, less optimistic.

*runs around flapping and going waaaah some more*

I haven't even vaguely started on my reading for class tomorrow. But theres a good chance there will be a lack of teacher, in which case I can catch up in the library. I mean college phoned on monday to say no teacher this week, but they only mentioned Wednesday tutorial. Don't know if there will be Thursday anyone.

I shall pack the big huge book of bookness anyways. And hope I don't put my back out lugging it around...

you know what I hate?
when my bad brain days turn out to have bad world to go with it.

sad now.

S3 board knows why.

and also, feeling stupid for flapping about my little stuff when big stuff is out there.
