I win for the year!
70% in The Novel at level 2
72% in Textual Transformations at level 3
:-D
slightly less :-) because I again, still, always, get the 'academic register' and the 'proper referencing' feedback. It's so frustrating. I work and work and work, and I still can't get the hang of the Harvard referencing. I thought I'd done quite well this time, but I get the essay back and I'm all *facepalm* and embarrassment, cause I managed the bibliography just fine but forgot the actual references. I didn't do plagiarism cause I remembered the names of the dudes I was talking about, but I didn't do Harvard referencing with page numbers. Also, I need to fix my computer so the spellchecker no longer recognises can't, don't, isn't, doesn't, she's, he's, they're, and all similar contractions. Or have a 'formal mode' spellcheck. I still don't get why that's the rule, but I try and I work and, yet again, I get the papers back all squiggles and 'is not!'
And it's not trivial. I was quite :-) about my 70% and teacher said it should be 80% if I can just do referencing and academic register. Which isn't just isn'ts but includes fixing my weird sentence structures that are apparently not sentence shaped. Also many of the tweaks I tend to do to fit the word count are counting against me. I know, I just... don't know when I'm looking at them. Like people who can't see spelling mistakes, says teacher. Yes. Just that embarrassing.
Next time I must remember these things before handing the essay in. So much is such an easy fix! *big sigh*
but hey,
70% in The Novel at level 2
72% in Textual Transformations at level 3
On course for a first!
... er, that means I have to actually work hard and stuff so I do in fact get a first. *sigh* I'd be quite happy with a 2:1 but the teachers are all encouraging.
Teachers also saying to think about doing more academic work and getting PhD and doing research and essays for the rest of forever OMG and I'm sitting there trying everso hard not to explain how deathly dull that sounds, since obviously they're saying 'do like we do!' It's just... I look at that future, and... *shudders*
granted, I look at all forms of work and *shudders*, but that's not the only factor at work here.
I've been doing this studying long enough to conclude most of it is frilly bollocks and the rest is equalities stuff. I feel fairly secure in pointing out which texts make it suck to be anything but a white male. Since I increasingly do not care one teeny tiny bit about anything outside that social stuff, I feel I need to do something a bit different with my life than just sit there typing up more of that essay stuff for other poor sods to study.
I want to type more of that book and film and television stuff for other poor sods to study, and some to actually enjoy. Clearly there is a massive difference.
So, I got a bunch of books out the college library for the summer, some creative writing and drama and essay writing and Science Fiction books. I will probably look at them every now and then while fiddling around on the internet, but in theory it is now summer writing project time.
Next goal: Beatrice, Malcolm, and the Welsh Mine story, clearly not based on Enterprise by the time it is finished, written up by September.
I can do more military research after I find where I grind to a halt wondering what all them people in overalls actually do with their days. First I shall just Make Stuff Up.
