I watched Infinity War
and
that is just a bad movie.

The way it was filmed and framed and all only made sense if we're meant to give a damn about Thanos having feelings
like, we get multiple moments that should be about fallen heroes or something and we are instead watching his face
and it's... junk. I mean, his argument for doing the thing is junk. That should go without saying. He is a bad guy doing a bad thing, and we don't care if it hurts his feelings.
So the movie is garbage.

Also, I was bored. Actively, wandered away to get snacks, stopped half way through for a while, bored.

I've been avoiding watching it but because I thought I'd be sad about the end. Instead by the end I was so disengaged with this steaming great pile that I do not now have feelings about it. In songvids and gifs I had many feelings, but in context it's nothing, because the whole story is made of jarring missteps and wrong notes and a big purple CGI failure.

Gamora should have been right. Abuse isn't love. That's not even slightly ambiguous.
So whatever story the story thinks it is telling is just wrong.

And the pacing of the whole thing was so far off. Chunks of different people's stories. The whole first hour being introductions.

Like I said, I got so bored.

And this is just the setup!

But at this point I don't trust they'll do word one of a decent payoff.

Everyone screwed up because feelings, so, that's a story, I guess
but
they screwed up in both directions at once, making both decisions in turn, so there was no actual right one?

The story just felt like doing its thing today.

It doesn't have an argument, it has a whole string of fight scenes and a mess.

And nobody's powers were well utilised.

Correction, Tony and Peter did get some great stuff to do, Iron Man and Spider Man and the suits and all, that was decent powers use.

Everyone else, not so much.

And yeah, I'm thinking Loki, but what he did made absolutely no sense whatsoever and doesn't suit him at all. It didn't pay his part of the story, it didn't answer what Thanos did to him or with him in The Avengers, it's just... nonsense.

I mean, a knife? The hell?

The acting really brought it for 'Odinson' but the moment makes no logical sense.

I realise I've seen all the spoilers and all the crit on tumblr and I'm echoing a lot of the negative opinions here, and I guess the film makers were really invested in people seeing the movie without spoilers, so they'd say that would be a different experience. But that wouldn't answer the problem I had with it, because I wasn't expecting it to be bad in the specific ways it was bad, that still surprised me.

Also it's not just the specific plot that pissed me off, if they want to tell a story about superheroes screwing up then this was certainly one they could tell, everyone had feelings at mostly plausible moments. It's just how it was told, it seems like the writers like Thanos? And think he made any tiny bit of sense?

Which is garbage.

So this film was boring nonsense.

And this is meant to be the set up of the payoff of ten years work?

Ugh.

I sound mad about it but I'm mostly not? Like, this was boring, it was mean, and I had known that in advance.

If I had the stones and had concerns about finite resources I would not answer them this way. I would start with like ringworlds and other such stellar engineering meant to harness the maximum amount of energy, and then see if we ran out of space in the next few million years. Maybe use the time and soul stones to bring a bunch of people back and do that thing where you put people from different years down next to each other with enough space for them each to live on and end up with a timeline all living at once. That seems interesting. Answer the big purple idiot with a more efficient use of resources and demonstrate exactly how much more room we have.

It's so very boring to get power on that scale and use it for killing. You can do that without it. Why bother?

Blah.

I am not currently thinking I need a ticket for Endgame.

Kind of sad I spent money on this one.

It's been a while, but IIRC the creators flat-out said that Thanos is the protagonist of the movie. That's taking "every villain is the hero of his own story" way over the top IMHO, especially when that means the narrative supports destroying half of all life in the universe.

I've been thinking of trying to see it before Endgame comes out, but now I think I'll just go with the reviews I read. Thanks for the warning!

Actually, with Endgame running three hours, I may not be able to sit through it in a theater either. The arthritis just won't take sitting in one place that long.

That's a great idea and I'm glad it's there for you. Here in southern California, not so much. I'll just have to decide if it's worth the effort. Captain Marvel was, I expect Rise of Skywalker to be. Endgame, maybe not.

Ah yes, thank you, same here. I was bored. I was vaguely aware I was supposed to have emotional reactions and I had nearly none. My tag for the thing is "infinity nonsense" on tumblr.
